Title of Talk: "Star Spangled Mystery"
Written in 1814, “The Star-Spangled Banner” is the most controversial song in United States history and it continues to inflame passions. How did it get to be our national anthem? In this presentation, author Marc Ferris relates the song's fascinating hidden history, punctuated by live musical renditions of its original version along with other tunes considered for anthem status in this broad sweep of American music and political history.
Quotes About The Presentation:
“I have put scores of scholars on stage and Marc Ferris stands out as one of the most distinctly entertaining of the bunch. His discussion of 'The Star-Spangled Banner' combined thorough research, humor and impressive guitar skills in a way that had people thinking, laughing and tapping their toes.” – Peter Schmidt, CEO, Profs and Pints lecture series, Washington, D. C.
“Exciting and informative, Star-Spangled Banner Mystery is a must see!” – Cassie Ward, director, Putnam History Museum, Cold Spring, New York
"Marc Ferris's presentation . . . is informative, educational and entertaining. His rapport with the visitors was excellent. “People raved about the presentation and had a great time.” – Susan Stonesifer, Eleanor Wilson Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Washington, D. C

Title of Talk: "Forest Therapy: What is it? Who needs it?"
Description of Talk
We review the history of forest therapy, how and why it started in Japan, and how it was re-envisioned in the USA to then launch a global network of practitioners. We will cover the basic concepts, elements, principles, and techniques behind forest therapy and discuss its physical, psychological, and spiritual benefits. We will also look at how forest therapy is guiding people on new pathways to improved healthcare and to a deeper engagement with nature and their communities.
About The Presenter
Jeffrey Wyant is a filmmaker and commercial television producer, who has written and directed over 200 national TV commercials, as well as syndicated prime-time specials — including “Don’t Ask Me, Ask God” with over 16 million viewers.
In 2015 and 2016, in an effort to create more sustainable activities in privately-owned forests, and to strengthen people’s nature-connection experiences, Mr. Wyant brought the first forest therapy guide-training program to New England, conducted by The Association of Nature & Forest Therapy Guides & Programs (ANFT). Mr. Wyant participated in the guide-training program and its 6-month mentored practicum, and is a certified Forest Therapy Guide. Since his certification, Mr. Wyant has led forest therapy sessions in woodlands, public parks, and private estates in New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Mr. Wyant is currently developing programs to more-broadly disseminate the benefits of forest therapy within the healthcare industry.
